About the Breed
The smooth-haired variety of Fox Terrier is not quite so popular
as their wire-haired relations, despite the fact that they
are the senior branch of the family. The general appearance
of these dogs is that of a gay, lively and intelligent little
dog. The Fox Terrier Club drew up a Standard of Points for
the breed as early as 1876. Breeders have taken considerable
care to maintain type and it is very popular abroad, especially
in hot climates.
Weight is not considered a criterion of a dog’s fitness
for his work but between 15-18 lb(6.8-8.2 kg) is a good average.
Coat type/colour Coat short, hard and smooth. Colour white
should predominate and black or tan markings are the most
usual. Ears V-shaped, small and dropping forwards, close to
the cheeks. Tail docked and set on high.
