About the Breed
The title ‘Lakeland Terrier’ was one decided upon
by the Lakeland Terrier Association about 1925, a few years
before the Kennel Club gave the breed official recognition.
Though these game little dogs had worked with almost all the
hunts of their districts for many years, not until the formation
of the Association in 1921 and the Lakeland Terrier Club in
1932 did the breed prosper as a Fancy. Today, however, the
Lakeland is popular as a companion and Show dog.
Height not to exceed 14½ in (37 cm)
Weight not to exceed 17 lb (7.7 kg)
Coat type/colour Coat harsh, dense and weather-resisting.
Colour blue-and-tan, blue, black, black-and-tan, red, wheaten
or grizzle. Head well balanced, flat skull, powerful jaws
and broad but not overlong muzzle. Well set-on docked tail.
