About the Breed
The Old English Sheepdog is an ancient breed of great charm
and sagacity. Although now seldom used as working sheepdog
the ‘Bobtail’ makes an excellent guard and caretaker.
These dogs enjoy looking after their master’s property
whether it be the house, children or chickens. Bobtails are
strongly and compactly built but of great symmetry. The heavy
coat and characteristic ambling or pacing movement at the
walk is apt to give an erroneous impression of slowness and
clumsiness, whereas these dogs are, in fact, very active.
Some puppies of the breed are born tail-less but docking is
usually necessary.
Height about 22 in (56 cm)
Coat type/colour The coat is shaggy and of hard texture with
a weather-resisting undercoat, and is particularly abundant
on hind-quarters and head.
Colour grey, grizzle, blue or blue merle, with or without
white markings.
