About the Breed
One of the most beautiful members of the Spitz family, the
Samoyed is named after the nomadic tribe of Samoyeds, or Samoyedes,
usually found at the head of the Yenisei, though the dogs
are common to the Pechora district and even further afield.
The general title of Laiki is given to some half-dozen of
these Northern breeds, which are used for rounding up reindeer,
guarding the herds, and sometimes as sled dogs. The earliest
importation of any note was a dog brought by Mr. Kilburn Scott
in 1889, which was followed by others within a few years.
The Samoyed Club was founded in 1909, and from its institution
until today the breed has forged ahead.

Coat type/colour Coat harsh, medium to long, with a stand-off
ruff, and thick soft undercoat. Colour white, white-and-biscuit
and cream.
