About the Hafflinger Breed .The Hafflinger Pony is a Tyrolese breed
and represents a small but very thick mountain horse, with plenty
of bone and heavy head, which he usually carries close to the
ground while climbing. Owing to his great qualities of strength,
sure-footedness and quite good movement, he makes an excellent
pack and draught horse, used to a great extent in the agriculture
and forestry industries in the mountains. Just before the Second
World War he attracted a great amount of attention from the
German authorities, who gave much support to his breeding. The
Hafflinger stallions were reared in the Central Stud at Piber
(Austria). The average height of the pony is just under 14 hands,
having a rather long body, and being usually palomino in colour.
