About the Timor Pony Breed .This pony is of good repute in Australia
and New Zealand, and has always been well used in harness and
under saddle. It is also to be seen at times in the show ring.
Although permitted, colours are not defined – indeed it
seems the breed is found in any colour – it is interesting
that such an attractive admixture frequently occurs as chocolate
body, cream spots and cream mane and tail, suggesting the Appaloosa
type. The ideal pony is one of good girth, strong across the
back and quarters. These Timor ponies are eager, sure-footed
and tireless, and possessed of considerable natural wisdom.
Because of this they are largely used for stock work, for which
they are admirably suited, since quite heavy weights seem not
to trouble them at all. They originate from the Island of Timor,
Indonesia.
